You’re not writing for everyone in the audience….

The woman stood alone on the stage, just her and her guitar.

She brought songs she had written with her heart and her pen. She shared them with the crowd. Vulnerable. Raw. Beautiful.

Most of the crowd sat in rapt, respectful silence, hearing her words and music. They gave her their attention, and space to sing. Showed their appreciation with applause.

But not everyone.

Some people saw this time before the main band as a chance to loudly catch up with their friends,.

Seemingly oblivious to the singer, and the people around them who wanted to listen to her.

Barely pausing for breath in their relentless conversation.

She must have heard them. She must have known they weren’t interested.

But still she played.

She wasn’t playing for them.

She was playing for the people who were listening to her.

For her love, who sat in the sidelines, watching her with pride.

And for herself. She was there to play to an audience. And she did it magnificently.

Many people get stuck worrying that not everyone will like what they write in their emails.

And it’s true. They won’t.

Some people will actively dislike it.

Some people will ignore it.

Some people will applaud politely, think you’re ok but will never follow you.

But some people will love you.

They will sit in rapt attention, soaking up all the words you write for them.

Because you aren’t writing for the people who are ignoring you. Or who don’t like what you write.

You’re writing for the ones who love your words. Who need your words. Who will follow you and read all the words you write.

Write for them…

And write for you. Because YOU deserve to share your words, your ideas, your expertise.
